MSc summer course organized by CTU at CTU

In the framework of VLIR-NETWORK-VIETNAM program, projects of Aquaculture (P1) and Food Technology (P2) synergistically organized the MSc. Summer course for 34 MSc students of Aquaculture and Food Technology coming from Ha Noi University of Agriculture   (HUA), Hue University (HU), Nha Trang University (NTU) and Can Tho University (CTU) from November 11 to 20th, 2013, at CTU (list of students). Among students coming from all the university network, there were two foreign students who are studying MSc. program at NTU.

Overview of the partner programme activities

PROGRAMME OF NETWORK UNIVERSITY COOPERATION FOR RESEARCH BASED EDUCATION ON BIOSCIENCE FOR FOOD IN VIET NAM

(VLIR VN network programme – Phase II, 2019-2023)

 

Brief information of the Partner Programme, its background and its objectives

The programme focuses on the development of the curricula for joint degree MSc courses in Aquaculture and Food Technology. The curricula are developed on the joining efforts of four Vietnamese universities/institutes and two Flemish universities. The contents of the curricula are a harmonized combination of strength of each partner in the interdisciplinary way. Students have chances to take the courses or doing graduation theses at the different university partners involved in the network. During this programme, the capacity building process has been obtained in which human resources and research and training facilities have been significantly upgraded. The network university cooperation programme on Bioscience for food with 2 main thematic areas: (1) food technology and (2) aquaculture will greatly support for CTU and partner institutions finish the missions and contribute to the sustainable development of Vietnam, especially in the context of facing to the climate change issues. Networking is a sustainable way to strengthen and consolidate research and education activities of individuals within the network, between Vietnamese and Belgian partners. This is a high level of combination, supplementation and sharing of all the individual strength to reach the academic and developmental overall objectives. The overall academic objectives of the project are to establish a collaboration network between Flemish universities and Vietnamese inter-universities to develop and consolidate the joint degree graduate programmes for MSc level and double degree at PhD level with the Flemish universities in the framework of programme and long-run, definitely in the second phase of the programme (2019-2023) and research-based education in bioscience for Food.

The overall developmental objectives are to obtain highly qualified human resources for sustainable development of aquaculture sector and to establish a strong and sustainable network system in bioscience for Food.

The specific academic objectives of the project are (1) to develop credit exchange system among universities partners; (2) to develop curricula and joint graduate degree Master programmes in bioscience for Food.; (3) to develop joint PhD programme in biosciences for food among university partners  between Flemish universities and Vietnamese inter-universities/institutes.

The developmental objectives are (1) to train human capacity of each Vietnamese university partner; (2) to obtain highly qualified human resources for sustainable development of in biosciences for food; and (3) to establish and strengthen the network system.

The programme aims to have the collaboration between Vietnamese universities/institutes and Flemish universities to form a collaborative networking to acquire the objectives efficiently. Based on these objectives, the envisaged result areas during the 1st phase of the NETWORK cooperation (2013-2018) are included: network based MSc student credit exchange system was developed; network based doctoral level is operated; the pathways towards an English MSc programme in biosciences for food are identified; the human resources and infrastructures have been upgraded and strongly developed; the research collaboration in biosciences for food is shared; the research agenda in bioscience for food is integrated at institutional, network and country level; and, Network stakeholder platform is created and kept operational. The VLIR Vietnam network programme consists of 5 institutions which spreads over the country:

                              Nha Trang University, NTU

                              Research Institute for Aquaculture No2, RIA2

 And two universities from Flanders in Belgium:

                              Ghent University, UGent (coordination)

                              Katholic University of Leuven, KU Leuven

 Total budget: 1M euro

On November 15th, Can Tho University (CTU) has successfully held the launch meeting programme of Network University Cooperation for research-based education on biosciences for food in Viet Nam. At the event, partners from participating universities and institutes have signed the MOUs within the collaboration framework.
