Research Institute for Aquaculture No2 (RIA2) was established on June 2nd 1983, representing one of the four Research Institutes for Aquaculture which are under the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development of Vietnam (MARD). RIA2 is responsible for aquaculture and fisheries research in the southern part of Vietnam. The main functions of RIA2 are to do research and to apply science and technology advances in aquaculture, capture fisheries, fisheries resource management, aquatic product processing, and post-harvest technology.
At present, RIA2 comprises 7 research centers, among them 1 national breeding center for freshwater aquaculture located in Tien Giang province, 1 national breeding center for marine aquaculture located in Ba Ria – Vung Tau province, and the sub-institute for Fisheries research located in Ca Mau province.
The current number of RIA2 staff is around 170 members, among them 11 Ph.D, 42 Masters and 75 Bachelors.
