Hue University, formerly known as the University of Hue, was established in 1957. As one out of the three regional universities in the entire country, Hue University is a public multidisciplinary institution of higher education that bears the mission of performing national strategic tasks and regional development; bringing into the traditions of quintessential, high-quality training combined with multidisciplinary scientific research that creates state-of-the-art, effective products of science and technology.

Over nearly 65 years of construction and development, Hue University is a higher education institution that plays a leading role in high-quality human resources training in Thua Thien Hue province, Central, Central Highlands, and the whole country. Hue University ranks the top five higher education institutions in Vietnam and the top 350-500 universities in Asia. Based on the multidisciplinary model, the university’s training programs cover almost all disciplines at undergraduate, postgraduate and doctoral levels. HU offers 153 undergraduate programs, 102 Master-degree programs, and 58 Doctoral degree ones, 18 joint training programs which are aimed to achieve the criteria of quality, autonomy, and integration. These training programs are provided by 8 member universities of Hue University (University of: Agriculture and Forestry, Arts, Economics, Education, Foreign Languages, Law, Medicine and Pharmacy, and Sciences which includes Natural, Social Sciences and Humanities), 4 schools (Tourism and Hospitality, Physical Education, International School and School of Engineering and Technology), Branch of Hue University in Quang Tri Province and Institute of Biotechnology.

Hue University (HU) is a comprehensive university with more than 50,000 full time (Bachelor’s: 40,932; Master’s: 3,133; PhD: 279 students), more than 300 international students. Total: 4020: • Professors, Associate Professors: 268; • Senior lecturers: 221; • PhD: 652; • Master: 1,433; • Researchers: 300; • Lecturers: 2,091.

Since 2005, Hue University has created and successfully implemented 69 international cooperation projects with the funding amount of millions US dollars. These projects have greatly contributed to Hue University’s training and research activities, as well as to the socio-economic development in Central and wider Vietnam. These projects are almost related to key research fields in Hue University, such as agriculture and forestry, economics, education, medicine, environmental science, social science, and so on. Some typical on-going projects include:

  • Developing productive, sustainable and profitable smallholder beef enterprises in Central Vietnam funded by Australian Centre for International Agricultural Research (ACIAR), Australia;
  • Climate Change and Rural Institution funded by Danish International Development Agency (DANIDA);
  • Promoting preservation and sustainable use of forests in Tay Giang district. Central Vietnam funded by Malteser International, Germany;
  • Supporting the integration in Agricultural Curricula of Climate Change concerns at Universities of Agriculture, Hanoi University of Agriculture, Hong Duc University and Hue University of Agriculture and Forestry funded by NICHE, the Netherlands;
  • Building capacity to adapt to climate change in Southeast Asia funded by the International Development Research Centre, Canada.;
  • Institutional University Cooperation Program (IUC) funded by VLIR-UOS, Belgium;
  • SHARE 2015-2018: EU support to Higher Education in the ASEAN Region;
  • Erasmus+ NutriSEA: 2015-2018 Network of Universities and Enterprises for Food Training in Southeast Asia;
  • VETEC (Vietnamese – European Knowledge and Technology Transfer Education Consortium);
  • Erasmus+ EVENT: 2016-2019 European and Vietnamese Collaboration on Graduate Employment;
  • Erasmus+ TOURIST: 2017 - 2020: Sustainable Tourism and Finance Management;
